How donations make a difference
Thanks to grants from major donors and trusts we have been able to sustain funding for up to six nurses, along with a number of important projects that form part of a wider package of practical and emotional support for families running alongside our core respite care.
For example, philanthropic giving has enabled our Family Support Team to provide more than 8,000 hours of creative play, complementary therapy and social events to help break the cycle of loneliness and isolation for parents, children and even grandparents.
These are just some of the ways in which major donors, trusts and foundations can help families:
- Nurse care at home providing respite for families – supporting Nurse and Carer salaries helps us continue to care for children at home throughout Dorset and Wiltshire during the pandemic and beyond
- Mental health and well-being - our Family Support Service reduces isolation and provides tailored creative play, complementary therapy, activities which benefit all the family
- Virtual Care programme – during the pandemic our nurses, carers, sibling workers and playmakers are also online for families at home bringing advice, support, creative play and fun<
- Sibling support - provides a dedicated resource for siblings to build confidence and cope with the anxieties and complications that can arise from having a seriously ill brother or sister
- Hospice care - funding for clinical equipment and renovations at our hospices
- Behind the scenes support - our care logistics hub ensures every family receives the care they need at the right place and time
- End of life support - provides wrap-around care and support for families at home and at our hospices
- Bereavement support – ensures our care team are there for our families to offer support for up to five years
