At Christmas last year, we shared with you the story of seven-year-old Addy and her family. Addy appeared to be a very healthy little girl, who loved to laugh and whizz around on her scooter.

But at four years old, Addy started to have seizures, and she was diagnosed with a rare type of Batten’s Disease. Nicknamed ‘childhood dementia’, this cruel condition steals every skill a child has ever learned. Without medical advances, Addy is sadly not expected to reach her 10th birthday.

Addy’s mum Hayley says, “Last Christmas, we were preparing for it to be the last one that Addy would be able to see. That was really upsetting because she just loves the lights and all the colours of Christmas. But actually, she still has good sight. Even now, she's telling me about her light-up unicorn lamp, which she can see across the room.
