Trek the Great Wall of China Fundraising Ideas

It can be daunting asking your friends and family to sponsor you, but there are lots of ways you can top up your fundraising pot and convince people to contribute. Here are our top fundraising ideas:

Set yourself a target
Setting up a JustGiving fundraising page with a target helps you get up to 46% more donations - aim high.
Be A Social Butterfly
Update your social media pages and share your fundraising page to let everyone know what challenge you are doing.
Match Your Money
Tell the company you work for about your challenge. They may like to donate or even match your fundraising total pound for pound.
Collection cans
Put one in your office or a local shop. If you would like us to send you one just email us at alice.chalmers@juliashouse.org.
Clear-out For Cash
Use Facebook Marketplace, Vinted, eBay or Gumtree to sell your unwanted items. Your trash could be someone else's treasure!
Host From Home
How about hosting a dinner or garden party with a set price per head? Choose a theme, send out invitations and plan some party games.
Birthday fundraiser
Is your birthday coming up soon? Instead of everyone buying presents you could ask them to donate to your JustGiving page instead.
Lend a hand
You could do some DIY, cleaning or cooking for someone and as payment they could donate to your JustGiving page.
Host a quiz night
Why not host a quiz night for a donation? Include a raffle and other fun games to boost fundraising on the night.
Traditional bake sale
Why not bake some cakes and yummy treats for friends, family or colleagues and ask for a donation in return?
Fiona's tips for fundraising...

Fiona has raised over £12,000 for Julia's House by participating in overseas challenges. She has taken part in five of our charity challenges to date: cycling from Bournemouth to Paris, hiking the Great Wall of China, Machu Picchu, Everest Base Camp and the 24 Peaks in the Lake District.

"Although at first, I thought fundraising would be incredibly daunting, I found that if I set myself small targets throughout the year, it really was achievable.

At first, I was fortunate enough that people would support me through my JustGiving page, but by my third or fourth challenge, I had to start thinking outside the box! My biggest successes were my quiz nights. I asked my local village hall if I could host a fundraiser and invited friends, family and acquaintances along, charging £6 per person. I encouraged everyone to bring their own drinks and nibbles to keep the costs down and I hosted a raffle and table games to encourage more donations on the night. With just over 120 people, I would raise an average of £1,400 - just two of these in a year really made a difference to my fundraising.

I can't begin to describe just how incredible these overseas adventures are - they are very addictive, and it makes it even more special knowing that by taking on these challenges, I'm making a difference to local families who are caring for a poorly child. I have loved every minute of it".
