Karis is a freelance illustrator and visual storyteller with a penchant for folkloric curiosities.
Karis lives on board a boat on the Oxford canal, which serves as both her home and studio. Once a year the boat is opened to the public as a gallery and art market, as part of a community project to encourage ‘landlubbers’ to take a glimpse into the life of canal folk.
‘Fossil Fables’ is inspired by ancient maps illustrated fantastically to depict the sightings of the day during voyages over high seas.
As a freelance visual storyteller, I am inspired by the narratives which shape lives, and ignite curiosity. May it be a tiny morality tale, the life of a pebble, or the chronicles of an entire family; storytelling and mythologies are how we pass on information and never forget those who came before us. Julia’s house is full to the rafters with its own stories, all very big ones to the people who lived through them. The Great tail trail is a great event to showcase my own spin on fables from this magical region of the UK. As a child I fossil hunted the beaches in awe of tiny treasures and the stories behind each one, so to capture not on,y my personal nostalgia, but to support a fabulous charity and keep thousands of other stories alive too.
