Julia’s House was a big part of my life. I’m now really happy to volunteer as a Young Ambassador and give back for everything they’ve done for me.
I hope that children like me can see the good things in their life and that Julia's house is one of them.
I was born with muscular dystrophy cmd1a. There are lots of different types of muscular dystrophy and they are all different. My type doesn't get worse, but because my body has got bigger it's become harder over time. I’m a full-time electric wheelchair user and I need help with everything because I have muscle weakness all over.
Julia’s House supported me and my family for around eight years. All of my nurses and carers have been amazing and so helpful and fun! They have aways treated me with respect, especially with my personal care which can be tricky when you are older and I could talk to them about stuff if I needed to.
I can remember so many great days out with Julia’s House. One of the best days was going on a disabled access narrow boat for the day. I never thought I would be able to drive a boat! I have other favourites too, like going to see the Christmas lights at Longleat, racing car days, and the Julia’s House summer and Christmas parties.
Julia’s House would give my mum and dad a break when they looked after me and supported them when we had some bad news and difficult times. My brother used the sibling service that Julia’s House provides too.
I felt very sad about leaving Julia’s House when I turned 18, and I will miss our sessions together, but I will always remember the fun times and support Julia’s House whenever I can.
