A huge thank you from us to eight year old Nate, who has taken on a 50 miles in 50 days challenge to raise money for our care of local children with life-limited conditions.

Nate in action on his 50 miles in 50 days challenge

Nathaniel Pollitt, from Devizes, is just over half way into his challenge of running one mile every single day – come rain, shine or snow – for Julia’s House.

Already, the kind-hearted youngster has raised £170. This will make a big difference because we rely on public funding for the ongoing care of seriously ill children and their families in the Wiltshire and Dorset community.

“The challenge has given Nate something positive to focus on during this difficult time of lockdown and it’s been a nice distraction for him,” says Mum Nicole.

“He wanted to help other children through his challenge, and when we looked into Julia’s House and the life-changing work that they do, he said ‘yes, that’s the one!’”

She says, “He really misses family and friends and home schooling can be pretty full on, so going out for the run really helps to lift his mood. Naturally, I feel very proud – he's shown real dedication, going out every day, even in the freezing cold, snow and rain. He said he has started to feel a little worn out, but is confident in himself that he will complete the challenge no matter what.”

Along with his family and Julia’s House cheering him on, Nate also has the support of everyone at Five Lanes CE VC Primary School in Devizes and his Cubs leader at 6th Devizes Scouts Group, who is now looking into what badges the challenge might go towards.

Nicky Clack, Fundraising Assistant at Julia’s House, says, “Nate has shown such determination to get out there every day to complete his challenge, and we’re cheering him on every step of the way. We’d like to say thank you to Nate for fundraising for Julia’s House – he’s helping to bring a lot of joy and care to seriously ill local children and their families.”

Nate is due to complete his 50 mile challenge on 24 February, but Mum Nicole says that if lockdown continues he may keep running. To show your support, visit justgiving.com/fundraising/nateruns
