A ‘blooming brilliant’ young fundraiser has grown a wildflower mini meadow in her back garden to raise money for Julia’s House Children's Hospice.

Eight-year-old Romi-Rae Coles, who lives in Blunsdon in Swindon, was inspired to fundraise for Julia’s House when she learnt about our work to care for seriously ill children through her school earlier this year.

With help from her mum Jema, the youngster set about growing wildflowers from seed in a tiny patch of grass in her back garden. She then packaged the little bunches and sold them to friends and family for donations. Romi-Rae, who attends St Leonard’s CE Primary Academy, has been so successful in selling her wildflower bunches that she has raised more than £150 for Julia’s House.

Mum Jema Meredith-Kenealy said, “Romi struggles at school, so it’s been brilliant to see her find something she loves doing and shine at. Nature and animals are really Romi’s thing and so this fundraising activity has been perfect for her.”

Jema said, “We were actually told that we wouldn’t be able to grow anything in our little garden, but Romi wanted to do it, so we thought we’d give it a go. It’s been a labour of love and the garden’s really flourished!”

She added, “Romi’s so pleased she’s been able to help the very seriously ill children that Julia’s House care for. Now she’s got her first Young Fundraiser certificate with Julia’s House, she hopes to fundraise again and go for her Level 2 and 3.”

Nicky Clack, Fundraising Assistant at Julia’s House, said, “We’d like to say a big thank you to Romi-Rae for being a blooming brilliant Young Fundraiser! We think it’s fantastic that she has raised money for Julia’s House while doing something that she loves.

“It’s only thanks to fundraisers like Romi-Rae and kind donations from supporters that we can keep caring for seriously ill children and their families – every pound raised really does make a difference.”
