An intrepid team from local children’s hospice charity, Julia’s House, will be taking on a very special challenge for Children’s Hospice Week 2024 (17th-23 June 2024) by running, walking, swimming and cycling 1083 miles over the weekend of 22nd and 23rd June. Why 1083 miles? That is the distance from the Julia’s House hospice in Corfe Mullen, to every one of the families in Dorset who are supported by the charity.

Seventeen members of staff including carers, nurses, administrators and IT, have been training hard over the last few months and weeks for the epic challenge, which they hope will raise £5,000 to help Julia’s House continue to provide its life-changing care in the local community.

The inspiration behind the challenge is the 100s of miles the Julia’s House care team travel every year all over Dorset to deliver support and vital respite care to the most seriously ill children and their families in their homes, out and about in the community and at the hospice. The specialist nurses and carers look after the seriously ill child, so parents can have a much-needed break from caring 24/7 to catch up on sleep or spend precious time with siblings or each other.

The 1083 team will be taking on their challenge at BH Live in Corfe Mullen, starting at 9am on Saturday 22 June and finishing at the Julia’s House hospice at 5pm on Sunday 23rd June. With use of the gym and pool kindly donated by BH Live, the team will be running, walking, swimming and cycling the 1083 miles across the whole weekend. The final miles will be finished with a group walk back to the hospice in Corfe Mullen to celebrate… and have a rest!
