After almost a year of waiting for the perfect conditions, Awdry Law Managing Partner Alex David seized the day and successfully swam the English Channel!

Alex battled strong currents and even a jellyfish sting to cover the 21 miles from England to France in an incredible 15 hours and 4 minutes (those last 4 minutes must have been painful!).

The dad of two from Devizes has so far raised more than £9,000 for his chosen charities, Julia’s House and Devizes Opportunity Centre. And there is still time to donate!

Throughout his swim, updates were shared via the Facebook channel, “Alex David’s English Channel Swim”, where his crew, following alongside, provided regular live streams.

Alex says, “The toughest part of swimming the Channel is that once you step into the water off English shores, you cannot escape, and you cannot help yourself. You cannot seek refuge for a minute or two or put on some clothes or a bobble hat to keep you warm. You cannot touch the boat or anyone. You are on your own until you feel that sand.”

Jo Comon, Julia’s House Business Development and Corporate Fundraiser, says, “On behalf of all the children, families, and staff at Julia’s House Children’s Hospice, thank you. You are truly an inspiration, and your valuable support is helping us provide a lifeline of care to the seriously ill children and families who rely on the respite care we provide.”

Alistair Everett, Fellow Partner and Former Managing Partner at Awdry Law, also shared his pride and admiration: “So proud of you, Alex. Simply fantastic and awe-inspiring. A huge well done and congratulations from us all to you.”

Adding a personal touch, during the live stream, his two daughter’s sent Alex a message saying, “Can you tell Daddy we are super proud of him, he’s doing a great job, and we love him with all our hearts.”
