Does your pet pooch look like you? Is their tail permanently set to wag? Or maybe they’re a champion just waiting to shine?

All dogs and dog-lovers are invited to the annual Fun Dog Show at the King’s Arms in All Cannings near Devizes, from 10am on Sunday 29 August.

The family event is organised by local fundraiser Vee Thursby to raise money for Julia’s House. Our nurses and carers support some of the most seriously ill children across Wiltshire and Dorset, and Julia's House has provided vital care and support for Vee’s family over the years.

“My granddaughter Sophia is severely disabled and needs round-the-clock care,” says Vee. “From when she was first born, Julia’s House children’s hospice has admirably supported my son and daughter-in-law in their family home in Wiltshire and in the charity’s hospices.

She adds, “I have also been involved with the charity’s Devizes Friends fundraising group for several years. Julia’s House is a wonderful charity and the care they provide to local children and families is life-changing.”

The Fun Dog Show in All Cannings was first started in 2016 by the Nine Villages Conservative Branch. As its name might suggest, the event is very much focused on having fun. However, there are three Pedigree Classes that can be entered, including Junior (6-18 months), Sporting and non-Sporting, followed by the Championship of those three categories.

There are also ten fun classes, including ‘Dog with the waggiest tail’, ‘Dog most like their owner’ and ‘Dog the judge would most like to take home.’

“It’s hugely popular with dog owners,” says Vee. “The lovely thing about holding it at The King’s Arms is the gorgeous space, as well as the opportunity to eat and drink in the pub garden, whilst watching the show. We’ll also have The Italian Job at the event, who will supply a barbecue and coffees and soft drinks on site.”

Claudia Hickin, Fundraiser for Julia’s House, says, “We’re so thrilled the Fun Dog Show is supporting Julia’s House, and it’s all the more wonderful that it’s organised by a family member of a child we care for. In Wiltshire, we rely completely on the generosity of our local community, so please do come and take part in the fun.”

Vee would love to have more volunteers for the event and to help run the raffle.

Entries will be taken from 10am on the day and judging will begin at 11am. Competition entry cost is £2 per dog per event.
