Fiona has raised over £12,000 for Julia's House by participating in overseas challenges. She has taken part in five of our charity challenges to date: cycling from Bournemouth to Paris, hiking the Great Wall of China, Machu Picchu, Everest Base Camp and the 24 Peaks in the Lake District.
"Although at first, I thought fundraising would be incredibly daunting, I found that if I set myself small targets throughout the year, it really was achievable.
At first, I was fortunate enough that people would support me through my JustGiving page, but by my third or fourth challenge, I had to start thinking outside the box! My biggest successes were my quiz nights. I asked my local village hall if I could host a fundraiser and invited friends, family and acquaintances along, charging £5 per person. I encouraged everyone to bring their own drinks and nibbles to keep the costs down and I hosted a raffle and table games to encourage more donations on the night. With just over 120 people, I would raise an average of £1,400 - just two of these in a year really made a difference to my fundraising.
I can't begin to describe just how incredible these overseas adventures are - they are very addictive, and it makes it even more special knowing that by taking on these challenges, I'm making a difference to local families who are caring for a poorly child. I have loved every minute of it".
