If you’re opting for a real Christmas tree this festive season but not sure what to do after the celebrations are over, you can support families of seriously ill children by having your tree collected by Julia’s House!

People living in parts of East Dorset, Devizes, Pewsey and Marlborough can arrange to have their real Christmas tree collected from home and recycled by our friendly team of staff and volunteers.

In Wiltshire, the trees will be chipped by Will Corke at Green Farm Tree Care and a local farmer will be using the chippings. And in East Dorset, Apex Tree Surgeons will be helping with tree chipping but the charity are hoping to hear from other wood chipping companies to help with the recycling.

It’s the first time we’ve run the free collection service and there is an option to donate and support our vital work caring for families in your community.

We are working with the national charity Just Helping to arrange our Christmas tree collections, as well as volunteers from local business and community groups.

In East Dorset, we’ll have the support of Rockley, as well as volunteers from a number of local businesses including Easy Storage, Vinyl Solutions, Osprey Europe Ltd, Woodmace, AA Property, Keen Fencing, Your Space Construction and Harry J Palmer.

The UK-wide tree collection initiative helped to raise more than £582,000 last year for children’s hospices and other charities by recycling more than 44,228 unwanted Christmas trees.

The collection will be available in the following postcodes in Wiltshire: SN10, SN9, SN8 1, SN8 4 and SN8 9.

The collection will be available in the following postcodes in East Dorset: BH1, BH2, BH3, BH4, BH5, BH6, BH7, BH8, BH9, BH10, BH11, BH12, BH13, BH14, BH15, BH16, BH17, BH18, BH19, BH20, BH21, BH22, BH23.

Amanda Valentine, Public Fundraising Assistant for Julia’s House, said: “We’re delighted to be taking part in Just Helping’s charity Christmas tree collection this year. When it’s time to take the baubles and tinsel down, it’s brilliant to know that there will be someone ready to collect your tree from your door, and we’re so grateful to the volunteers from our corporate supporters who are helping us to run the service.

“We don’t want people to miss out, so we’re encouraging everyone to book their slot early rather than wait until the New Year.  Any donations made to Julia’s House children’s hospice will make a real difference in helping us to care for local children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions and their families.”

Thanks almost entirely to donations from the local community, Julia’s House provides a lifeline of care for Wiltshire and Dorset’s most seriously ill children and their families – in our Devizes and Corfe Mullen hospices and in the family home.
