We're delighted to have opened our second Wiltshire charity shop - in Maryport Street, Devizes.
The ribbon was cut by three-year-old Tom Humphries watched by his mum, Jenna and 17-month-old sister Ellie. Ellie and her family live in Chippenham and have been supported by Julia’s House since April, after Ellie was diagnosed with a brain tumour.
The Devizes shop, in Maryport Street, is just a few minutes away from the Wiltshire hospice. It will be open from Monday to Saturday, 9am to 5pm and has a large children’s department as well as a range of ladies and men’s clothing.
Devizes joins our store in Salisbury, which we opened last year and also nine other shops across Dorset.
Retail Manager, Tracy Stanley, was delighted with how it all went: “We have had a brilliant day and the store has been absolutely buzzing! It has been wonderful to have so much support from everyone in the town.”
The new shop welcomes donations of goods – and time. It is currently recruiting for extra volunteers to help out with the running of it. Funds raised by the shop will go towards supporting families like Ellie’s.
Mum Jenna said: “Ellie requires round the clock care with lots of different medicines including chemo therapy at home. I am looking after her as well as Tom and it’s very difficult. The Julia’s House nurses have been a fantastic support to me, my husband, Ellie and Tom.”
Our Devizes children’s hospice opened just over a year ago, and we're currently supporting more than 50 families across the county.
