Ticket-holders attending our sell-out Julia’s House Carols by Candlelight concert in Devizes got a lot more than they bargained for.
For alongside the expected celebrity speakers Penny Junor and Stephanie Cole, mulled wine and mince pies were two unexpected guests – a pair of camels.
Therese and Temujen, were led in by their owner Lady Chichester as the final carol was being sung and then posed by the pulpit for the remainder of the service.
Afterwards there was a chance for guests to pet the pair and pose with them for photos. The camels surprise was nearly let out of the bag a few days before when someone tweeted a picture of them walking through Devizes in broad daylight on their way to a dress rehearsal.
Penny Junor said: “I have loved this evening. It was a fantastic service, incredibly moving. It has been a mixture of tears and laughter. The camels were just the icing on the cake. They looked amazing.” Stephanie Cole said it was: “An exceptional evening for the best charity in the world!”
Big thanks go to our guest speakers, St. Margarets Prep School choir, the Lyneham Military Wives choir, our volunteer photographer Simon Ward and all volunteers who helped out on the night.
