Charles Andrews with colleagues, Tony Wood and Doug Webb
Meggitt, one of our corporate sponsors, has supported us for a decade in various ways. A driving force behind much of the fundraising effort, with the support of his family and colleagues, is Charles Andrews, who works for Meggitt and is also a Julia’s House parent ambassador.
Every year, Charles, whose daughter Katherine is supported by Julia’s House, sets a stretching fundraising target for himself and his colleagues. This year, Charles smashed personal targets from previous years and raised more than £45,000 through encouraging family, colleagues and friends to participate in group events during the year.
He put a team together for our cycling event, The Big Ride, and also took on a personal challenge with his son Michael and a couple of friends, joining our Trek the Alps hike through France, Italy and Switzerland. His fundraising is just one of the many ways in which Charles, his family, friends and colleagues have helped to support the charity.
To celebrate the success and personal connection between the family, Meggitt and Julia’s House, Meggitt colleagues joined Charles at the Julia’s House Ball and contributed to the live auction – a tradition that colleagues have enjoyed over the years to show their support for Julia’s House and Charles.
This year, Charles also gave a moving speech to encourage other organisations to participate in the live auction by sharing personal experiences that his family have had through their connection with Julia’s House.
Charles said: “I know what a difference Julia’s House makes to my daughter and how her eyes light up at the prospect of spending a day, or better still a sleepover, at the Dorset hospice. This gives us a chance to do something special with our son, which might not otherwise be practical for the whole family. Julia’s House provide unimaginably important support to the whole family on an incredibly challenging, and at times very stressful, journey. I am delighted to do what little I can to help them in return.”
Tony Wood, Chief Executive, attended the event and said “As an international business, headquartered locally, we are proud to support Julia’s House for the work that they do in the local community and to recognise the support the organisation gives to Charles and his family as well as many others in the region.”
