Summer Shorties                               Children's Short Story Competition

Have you missed your friends? Have you made new ones on Zoom? Have you discovered new talents? Or have you spent most of the time just hanging out in your room? Now is your chance to use your lockdown experience to inspire you in the Julia’s House Summer Shorties children’s story writing competition.

With best-selling author, Minette Walters, choosing the winning stories you have the chance to win £100 and have your story featured on our website for everyone to enjoy.

Minette wants you to let your imagination run wild. It could be a nail-biting thriller, a summer romance or a cliff-hanging adventure. You choose. But the title of your story has to be ‘A Different Summer’. Here’s some advice from Minette:

I want children and young people to think about this different summer and let their imaginations run free. They can write about it as it was, or how they would have liked it to be. It doesn’t have to be their summer, it can be someone else’s – an imaginary friend, an animal, a parent or a grandparent. I’m so looking forward to reading their stories. If children bring their imaginations to play on what the words mean, their stories will be magical.
