Gift Aid

You can easily boost the total amount that you raise for us by simply remembering to ask your sponsors to Gift Aid their donation.

Three things to remember:

1.  Remember to ask

When you’re out and about asking friends and family to sponsor you, simply remember to also ask them to Gift Aid their donation!

2.  Check the details of your sponsorship donations

Remember to check your sponsorship form and ensure that everyone’s details are completed in full! No ‘Nan’ or ‘Uncle Jim’ – we need people’s full names, complete home addresses, and every field completed in full.

3.  It’s even easier if you fundraise online

If you fundraise online using an online sponsorship website like JustGiving then Gift Aid will be claimed automatically on all of your eligible donations. You won’t need to ask them to fill out a sponsorship form so this will all be done for you anyway!

Gift Aid Case Study - Di

Di Pestell ran the 2018 London Marathon for us in April to celebrate 10 years of working for Julia’s House. Her aim was to raise £5,000, which could pay for four fun-filled days at the hospice for eight children, including play and complementary therapies supported by the care team.

I was catapulted into the running world when I first joined Julia’s House. As charity of the year for Poole Festival of Running, there was an expectation that a staff member would run the race.  The finger was firmly pointed at me, despite having never run anything – apart from a sack race in the school sports day.

As a self-confessed fitness fanatic, I am found every morning at 6am in the gym (yes, really!) – pumping iron, doing circuits, boxing, spinning – all before my day in the Julia’s House office kicks off!

Di completed the marathon on the hottest day of the year so far! Throughout her training – and after the event – she collected sponsorship online through her JustGiving page and offline amongst friends and family. Not only did she exceed her fundraising target of £5,000, she raised more than £1,200 in Gift Aid, bringing her total raised to a fabulous £6,500!

There are times when we can’t claim Gift Aid on your donations. This happens when:
  • The donation is in return for tickets (raffles, events and auctions) or goods and services
  • The donation is on behalf of someone else or a group of people
  • The donation is on behalf of a company
  • The donation is from a family member and you are taking part in an event where we are contributing to the cost.
For example, if you are taking part in an overseas trek or skydive and we are paying towards the costs of the trip or jump, we cannot claim Gift Aid on any sponsorship you receive from family members.
