Sporty students raise funds for Julia's House

Sports students at Brockenhurst College pulled out all the stops again for charity, raising an incredible £770 for Poole-based Julia’s House hospice. The students, all on full time sports programmes, planned and managed a large Sports Fayre at the college to help raise much needed funds for the hospice.

Various local companies/organisations including AFCB, Bournemouth 7’s/Diamond Sports Events, Rhinefield House, Esporta Poole, Shorefields, New Forest Leisure Centres, Candylicious and Priory Sports, amongst others, were contacted and made donations of prizes for the raffle. Participants were able to join in events including a climbing wall, crossbar challenge, 5 a-side football competitions versus AFC Bournemouth under 18 squad, assault course and a rugby conversion kicking competition. A BBQ, sweet stalls and ice cream were available on the day and helped with the proceeds.

Lecturer and event co-ordinator Kayleigh Wilcox said ‘The group were required to work with no budget and so had to be creative and innovative in their approach to fund the event from available resources and by asking for donations to help with the raffle. They did a fantastic job and should be congratulated for their efforts. This was a massive achievement and the students are now evaluating the success of their event!’
