Julia’s House in Sunday Times 100 Best Small Companies to Work For

Julia’s House, Dorset children’s hospice, has achieved the prestigious accolade of being in the Sunday Times 100 Best Small Companies to Work For list for two years running.

The charity has maintained its top 20 position in the list, achieving the ranking of 18th overall and it has also been awarded the maximum 3 stars by Best Companies, the name behind the awards.

Over 100 staff at Julia’s House, including 80 nurses and carers providing life-changing support to families in their own homes, help to care for life-threatened young people throughout Dorset. The charity is currently running its Pyjama Appeal (www.pyjamaappeal.co.uk) to fund overnight and end-of-life care starting in the spring.

Martin Edwards, Julia’s House’s chief executive, commented: “‘We are delighted to be the top-ranked organisation in Dorset of any sector for the second year running, and to achieve the highest score in the whole of the UK for giving back to our community. We can still improve, but this rating from Best Companies confirms that our standards are among the very best in the country.’

The Sunday Times elite top 100 listing is based on the views of entrants’ employees fed into a survey, making it the most comprehensive study of workplace opinion of its kind. It recognises companies that lead workplace practice while engaging and motivating employees. The Sunday Times said that the Julia’s House employees feel that they can make a difference and said that chief executive Martin Edwards runs the firm on sound moral principles.

Martin Edwards sums up: “It shows that a charity can be at least as well run as the best of the private sector.”
