Our Aims

Julia's House is Dorset's only hospice dedicated to children with life-limiting conditions. The majority of the children we care for are unlikely to live beyond the age of 18.

Complementing the work of the Julia's House Community Team, which consists of nurses and carers who travel the county, the children's hospice provides life-changing support for families both in their own homes and in the hospice itself.

Receiving less than 10 per cent of our funding from the Government, Julia's House relies on the Dorset community to help raise the remainder of our required income.
In 2012, we estimate that it will cost nearly £2.7m to continue to provide our vital services.

Care facts:

  • We have76 staff in the Care Team / full-time equivalent of 69 staff
  • Our service is split 50/50 between caring for children in the hospice and out in the community, in their own homes
  • We care for around 100 children
  • We are reducing the service by 36 days and 2 weekends in 2012 >click here for more
  • We look after the whole family, not just the sick child. We organise social activities and provide support for parents, brothers and sisters.
